Marlow Briggs lies dead in the Central American jungle. Well, at least until he is resurrected by an Aztec ghost who lives in a mask and becomes a Holy Warrior. Good timing, too, because just now he can use his new powers to save his kidnapped girlfriend from the evil businessman Heng Long. The plot and dialogues are deliberately B-movie like and are presented in a humorous way.
Regarding gameplay, this is a hack&slay action game with focus on melee fighting. Marlow has four weapons to his disposal which he uses to slay enemies; using special attack combinations (heavy and light attacks) result in combos which are more effective. Other possibilities are dodging rolls, blocks, counter-attacks or using items in the environment as missile. During the course of the game, Marlow also learns four magic spells and can unlock skills with earned experience points.
While fighting takes the majority of the game, there are also other gameplay sequences: Sometimes Marlow has to beat platforming challenges, solve puzzles (usually of the sliding or switch variety) or participate in mini-games, e.g. rail-shooter sequences or a drive on a wagon. Some of those challenges can be repeated separately in order to gain a high score for the online leaderboards. The camera angles are fixed.
